Because the Internet - Childish Gambino

This past tuesday, Childish Gambino released his second studio album entitled "Because the Internet." I think I've blogged previously about how I'm a big fan of Childish and I was looking forward to this album. I really liked his first album and I'd been a fan of his mixtapes before he blew up as a rapper, and so I was really expecting a lot out of this album.

And I thought that he delivered. I really enjoyed listening to the album and I thought that he had some quality tracks. He did a lot of singing and not too much rapping, which I didn't favor, but he still made it work. I really liked the songs that had a combination of singing and rapping and I thought that the album as a whole had great production. Also, I think that he did a great job with his lyrics in this album and it seemed like a lot of time was spent.

Below I posted a couple of my favorite tracks from the album.

The White Album / Abbey Road

This past week in class, we listened to segments of two of the later albums in the late period of The Beatles career: The White Album and Abbey Road. Personally, I favored the White Album more so than Abbey Road.

I enjoy albums that are diverse and interesting and that almost defines the White Album. In the white album The Beatles were practically all over the place. Every song almost sounded like it was coming from a different band. I think that having this quality really makes the Beatles unique and its really separated and put them in a different category from bands of their time, and even bands today.

Abbey Road had a different feel to me than The White Album. First off, it's almost half the length of The White Album. The White Album was around 93 minutes and Abbey Road was just 47 minutes. Also, a lot of the songs in Abbey Road seemed really short and no longer then about two minutes. Also, Abbey Road had a tone of sorrow and it just didn't feel the same as most of the other records that the Beatles had produced. After hearing the issues that they had towards the end of their career, its makes it clear why this is the case.

Led Zeppelin

On wednesday we listed to Led Zeppelin's debut album entitled " Led Zeppelin." I've never really listened to any Led Zeppelin in the past but I'm a little familiar with them as they are a world famous band. But even though the music was a little new to me, I really enjoyed the music. I thought that the guitar play was really good though and really enjoyed some the hooks and riffs that were played. I was hoping to be able to listen to "Led Zeppelin II" but I had to miss class due to a basketball tournament. I hope to listen to more related music in the near future.

A$AP Rocky

So recently I've been listening to A$AP Rocky. He's a young and up and coming rapper from Harlem. He recently released his debut album called Long Live A$AP. I really enjoyed this album and it was disappointing that it leaked a month before it was supposed to be released.

But anyways, I thought that the album had great production and a bunch of different and creative beats. Also A$AP had a bunch of great features throughout the album and he had a bunch of different flows. I like rappers that try to make every song unique from one another and not sound too mainstream and A$AP does a great job of that. I suggest that you check out "fuckin problems" and "1 train"

It Might Get Loud

While you were gone we watched a documentary about three guitarists called: It Might Get Loud. The documentary was extremely slow and it was actually a little hard to keep track of. However, I did enjoy some of the work that guitarist Jimmy Paige had. I've never been a giant fan of his band, Led Zeppelin, but I enjoyed the riffs and chords that he played. The documentary really did help show different styles of guitar and it helped open me up to new branches of rock. I hope that we continue to explore new and different styles rock through activities such as this.

Hopsin

Most people probably have never heard of Hopsin before. He's not very mainstream and he hasn't even released a studio album yet. He's kind of a weird guy. In his music videos he sometimes wears white contacts which makes him look like a freak. However, he's a solid young rapper. He speaks the truth in all of his songs and he isn't afraid to diss or say anything to anyone. My favorite songs are "Sag My Pants" and "Ill Mind Of Hopsin" and both of which are posted below. I would suggest that you give them a chance as Hopsin is one of the few rappers that speaks about something other than women and money.

Cali Dreamin'

Earlier in the week, we listened to California Dreamin' by The Mamas and Papas. I actually liked this song a lot. It was a really calm and peaceful song and I enjoyed the rhythm that it kept. I also thought that the flute solo in the middle didn't hurt it or anything. The song is actually pretty catchy too and it got stuck in my head after listening to it.

I'm pretty sure that in class someone said that they heard a remix or that they had heard this song sampled somewhere. I think it was Christian and I doubt he'll even do a blog about this or remember what he was talking about and I actually do know a song that samples this. Kid Ink, the rapper I mentioned in my blog last week, has a song named Cali Dreamin' that samples the original by the Mamas and Papas. I think that the remake of the beat is actually pretty good. You should give it a listen.

Kid Ink

I don't think I've ever blogged about Kid Ink and since he's one of my favorite young and new artists I figured I should blog about him. Kid Ink is a 27 year old rapper that has only been active for about three years. He's produced an album, an EP and a handful of mixtapes. He's got a different style then most rappers nowadays. He sings and raps and sometimes it seems like he's doing both.

I really like the production on his albums and he think he does a great job working over the beats he gets. His hooks are all so catchy and a lot of his songs get stuck in my head. He has a wide range of music as well. Some of his songs are slow and smooth while others and upbeat. I can't wait to hear more new music from him and I hope that he maintains the quality of his previous music. I posted two of my favorite songs by him below.

Pet Sounds

Today in class, we listened to Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. I learned that it was their 11th studio album, which I think is crazy. I think it's amazing that a band can produce that many albums and still produce quality music. Other than Jay-Z and The Beatles, I've yet to discover someone that has produced that many albums and remained consistent. Out of everything that we've listened in the past few weeks, this has by far been my favorite.

I really enjoyed how the band mixed up their sound from the previous Beach Boys that we had listened to. Pet Sounds didn't feature nearly as much "surfer" type music as the previous Beach Boys titles that we've listened to. I still thought that the surfer music was good but I just thought that this was a little bit better. Although the album was only thirty-six minutes, I thought that the quality of the music was outstanding. I'd much rather prefer quality over quantity when it comes to albums. I hope that the Beatles album that we plan to listen to listen to next class is comparable and just as good as what we listened to today.

Old Skool

Recently, I've been listening to a ton of old school rap music. I'm not sure why but I've been getting into a lot of the old school west coast rap.

I've been listening to a lot of Snoop Dogg or Snoop Lion or whatever it is now and Doggystyle. I really like Snoop Dogg's old stuff. All of his new music is just him trying to be something that he's not and it's actually just really really bad. I think that he should've never changed his name or tried to some kind singer or something. I liked it a lot better when he's was just a chill rapper with songs like Lodi Dodi and Gz and Gin and Juice. Even up to Drop it like its Hot everything was so smooth and chill but now he's just gotten weird.

Also, I've been listening to Dr. Dre. Like Snoop, Dre has a lot of nice and calm songs. Fortunately, Dre has still remained the same way he's always been. But, that could be do to the fact that Detox was supposed to come out and it just never did. So the only stuff of his, I've been listening to is The Chronic and 2001. Everything else since then that he's been featured in just isn't that great.

The best songs are when these two guys work TOGETHER and not separate. The best songs with both of them were: Still D.R.E. and The Next Episode. It would be my dream if the two of them could possibly get back together and maybe a little EP with a couple songs that sounded the vintage Snoop and Dre.

Help!

For the second time over the past two weeks, the class watched Help! Personally, I didn't find the movie to be entertaining. I wasn't a huge fan of their first movie and this movie didn't particularly sway my opinion. I didn't find nearly anything in this movie to be comical and there were no moments that sparked. Also,  I feel like there was wayyyy to much information trying to slammed into a ninety minute movie. They kept bouncing from place to place making it nearly impossible to follow. If you sneezed, you missed an important clip of the movie. For example, the intermission and second part were like a combined minute, and ultimately had NOTHING to do with the movie. In the future I hope that we continue to listen to the Beatles music, but refrain from watching their movies.

Childish - 3005

Donald Glover. Or when entered into a wu-tang translator: Childish Gambino. Childish Gambino is a 30 year rapper and actor from Los Angeles. If you've never seen him act before then you might recognize him as "Troy" from Community.

Recently, Childish released a song titled "3005." If you've ever heard any of his rap before, it is a much softer version and it sounds like "Heartbeat" as opposed to "Bonfire" or "Freaks and Geeks." I really like 3005. I think that Childish is one of the best lyricists in the game right now. His raps are so clever and witty and most of the time, they are pretty funny. For example, in one of his songs he says "eating Oreos like these white girls that blow me." Now, I know that that is really inappropriate but it's kinda funny, and he's full of lyrics like that. But anyways, 3005 is really catchy and he sounds good as a rapper and a singer in this one. I hope that there is more to come from this single and possibly another album from Childish in the near future.

THRILLER

THRILLER. So since today is Halloween, we watch Michael Jackson's famous Thriller music video in class. I had never actually seen the full eleven minute video and I had only seen the dancing parts in the past. I think that the video was amazing, especially for something that came out 1982. It did look really cheesy at some points like when he transformed into a werewolf and the girl was just standing there screaming, but if that video was made with today's technology and effects, it probably would've looked a lot cleaner and smoother. Also, I kinda think that it is insane that they had to put a religious warning up before they showed the video. Nowadays, if something like were to be put up, it would seem ridiculous.

I've always been a fan of Michael Jackson and I've always thought that he was really talented. I think that the Thriller video just emphasizes his lyrical, musical and choreographical (if that's a word) abilities. I can't wait to listen and watch of more of videos, and eventually discover his impact and how he reshaped music in the 80s.

Magna Carta Holy Grail or Yeezus?

I know this wasn't all that recent, but Kanye and Jay-Z each released their most recent albums, Yeezus and Magna Carta Holy Grail, during the middle of the summer and I nothing else big has come out recently so I thought I'd talk about these. I listen to both of these records all the time and they may not be Kanye or Jay-Z's best piece of work, but I like both of them. But which is better?

Kanye's album was actually pretty disappointed following his last one. This album only has ten songs and I personally think that two of them are awful, so that's only 8 tracks. What I like about it is that Kanye has the ability to make every song sound completely different. Each song sounds independent and he raps with a different flow in each one. His lyrical ability is on the decline but he's still an incredible producer and he can make hits. I like his features on the album and I think he made the right decisions with who to put on each song. Overall, I think that he put out four songs that were alright, three more that are good and one that is really good. Next time, I'd rather see him put out more songs and pick up his lyrics.

Jay-Z's album was good too. Actually it was really good. Jay-Z had less features and worse production than Kanye but he's a WAY better lyricist. And that makes Jay-Z a MUCH better rapper. I mean you have to be able to "rap" to be a "rapper." And that's exactly what Jay-Z does and that why I think he's without question the best rapper alive and arguably the best rapper to ever pick up a mic. He's got a great rapping voice and a great flow. This wasn't his best piece of work, but it was still really good. This is why Magna Carta without question was better than Yeezus. My favorites are "Crown" and "Somewhereinamerica" and they're both posted below.

The Who & The Rolling Stones

Before actually sitting down and listening to each of these bands, I hadn't know much of anything about. I just thought that they were both extremely popular and really talented in addition to that. I knew that both of them had played at the Super Bowl and honestly, I HATED each of their performances. But then I look and see that Bruno Mars is playing at the Super Bowl this year and think: Could it get any worse? But to get back to the point, I had no real knowledge on either band.

I thought that the Stones were awful. It was probably the worst thing I've heard since one of my friends tried to become a rapper. They just didn't sound like good musicians and their album was loaded with covers (The one original they had wasn't my favorite either). This might be due to the fact that it was their debut album, but although I haven't heard much of their other stuff, there's no way they can be this "legendary band," which is the way that they are perceived. This is the first thing that we've tried out this year that I honestly hope to never hear again.

Now The Who is an entirely different story. Unlike the Stones they sound like more talented musicians and their original didn't sound like trash. I enjoyed listening to a handful of their songs and "My Generation" stuck out above the rest. Also, they seem like the type of band that would entertaining in concert and it seems that they'd have entertaining videos. I mean the drummer blew up dynamite on stage and didn't tell anyone that he was doing it, and so if that doesn't grab you're attention then I'm not sure what does. So I look forward to listening to more of The Who and much much less of The Rolling Stones.

Beastie Boys & New Music

So I had realized that other than very few exceptions, I don't have any hip hop or rap music released before 2000 in my iTunes library. So I decided to download "Licensed To Ill" by the Beastie Boys because other than their song "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" that was in guitar hero, I had never really heard any of their stuff.  But, I really really liked this album. I never realized how hard these guys went. I like how it's a group of three white rappers that can all jump in and out of each verses and it flows really well. I plan on downloading Paul's Boutique soon and hoping that that is just as satisfying.

Now I'm a big fan of Eminem. Well... kinda. I'm a fan of everything he released before 2005. His more recent stuff I've found to be garbage. BUT, he's put out three new singles for his newest album and they are all pretty good. This past week he released song called "Rap God" which is really really good. His beats are all really good and he just sounds revived. He's starting to do less screaming and more rapping but there's still a fair amount of screaming. I think that this will be his last project, and I hope he continues to go out strong.

Rock vs. Pop

I think for a lot of people, it is really challenging to distinguish the difference between Rock and Pop. However, I don't really find it that difficult. I think that Rock music is more traditional. By that, I think of Rock music as being stuff that is OLD. For example, I would consider everything that we've listened to so far as rock music. The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones are all examples of Rock Music.

As we advance farther in time, I think that music is now more technology advanced. For example, the beastie boys rapped over beats that included a guitar and drums, while nowadays most rappers go over hooks and loops that have been technologically modified. I would throw almost every form of music that released recently into the Pop category. Whether it's Drake, Taylor Swift, or 2 Chainz, I believe that all of these new and upcoming artists fit into the pop category. I'm not exactly sure why I look at it this way, but most likely it's because of how I listened to music growing up.

ACL

So as I am sure you are aware of, ACL was this past weekend, and for the third consecutive year, I attended. This year probably had the worst lineup it has had since I've been going. I think it was mainly a bunch of really old bands that older people would enjoy.

On Friday, I got there pretty early around noon. I know Asleep At The Wheel goes to ACL like every year and I'd actually never seen them before and since that was like the only thing going on at 12, I checked them out. I couldn't stand them and so my friends and I left and checked out Dana Falconberry.  Even though there weren't that many there to see her, I thought that she was pretty good, and it was worth it to go out of my way to see her. Next I saw Thao & the Get Down Stay Down and they were kinda weird, so after listening to them I went to get a pretty good spot for Jimmy Eat World. Jimmy Eat World was TERRIBLE. I hadn't really heard any of their songs other than "The Middle" and most of them just weren't very good. They played The Middle last and I didn't even stay for it because the part before was so bad. After that I went and got some food, then went and got a spot to see fun.  fun. actually wasn't too bad, or at least better than I expected.  When the guy came out and said "Austin, let's get TUNRTUP!!!" I was like "wow wtf is this" because he's no Juicy J. But they sounded good and had some good songs that I'd never heard before. It was really just a giant step up from Jimmy Eat World. Right after that ended I went to the Honda stage to camp out for Kaskade. Okkervil River was on before Kaskade and they were pretty good. It was nice to catch them before the dubstep concert. Kaskade had a really fun concert with the lights and dubstep but his bass drops all sounded the same and the music really wasn't that great. I had to take the SAT the next morning so I left about an hour into Muse.

On Saturday I got to the festival around 4 because I had to take the SAT in the morning so I went to Portugal. The Man.  They played their popular song first and that was nice, but I really didn't enjoy the rest of their music so I left that concert a little early to get a good spot for Kendrick Lamar. Before Kendrick was Grimes and she had the weirdest show I've ever seen. She had these interpretive dancers around her and she was playing the strangest music. I just couldn't wait for that concert to end so I could see Kendrick. Kendrick really wasn't as good as I expected and his hour went by extremely fast. After Kendrick my friends and I caught some of The Cure and some of Kings of Leon and left.

On Sunday, I got I to ACL around 3 and instead of seeing Paper Diamond, I saw Grouplove.  Grouplove was awful and I just really wasn't feeling their music. Probably the worst decision of the concert to Grouplove because everyone who went to see Paper Diamond said that it was awesome and I was stuck at Grouplove instead.  After that, I saw Toro y Moi. Toro y Moi was actually pretty good. They had some chill songs that were nice to listen to. After them, I went and saw Eric Church. I've never really been much of a fan of country music but he was my favorite act of the day. Once he had finished, I was exhausted from such a long weekend and so I went and got some food downtown, and called it a weekend.

Having A Bad Day

Whenever I'm having a bad day, I do a number different things. I always lay down and either eat, sleep, watch TV, play xbox or listen to music.

I usually like to eat either barbecue or I'll find something around my house to eat. I love to put turkey pastrami and provolone cheese on a sandwich and heat it up in the oven. There are tons of different things on TV I'd watch. I would watch sportscenter at any time, no matter the situation, but when I'm having a bad day, I'll usually go on Netflix and try to find things to watch. I used to watch Arrested Development and Breaking Bad, but I finished both of them and so now I started watching How I Met Your Mother. When I listen to music, I'll usually play an album or a mixtape straight through. That's usually the only way I listen to music anyways. When I'm having a bad day, I'll usually throw on some of Big Sean's stuff or Kendrick Lamar's stuff.

My Name Is My Name

If you're looking for some new "quality" rap, listen to some of Pusha T's new album.  His album is titled "My Name Is My Name."

Just in case you've never heard of Pusha T, he's actually kinda old. He's 36 years old. He used to be in rap duo with his brother and the due was named Clipse. In 2010 Kanye signed him to the G.O.O.D. Music label and this is his second album under that label.

Before this, I really didn't care for him and didn't really think he was any good. But a few days ago I was on one of my music blogging sites and I saw that his album had leaked and so I streamed it while I doing some math homework. He actually has a nice flow and I think he's really good.

If you're going to check out on of his songs, I'd recommend "Hold On" or "Nosetalgia." Also he has an older song that features Tyler the Creator called "Trouble On My Mind" and that's probably another one of his best songs. The music video is also pretty funny because Tyler is in this and he does a bunch of funny stuff and it's after he broke his foot so he's in this scooter thing.

Reggie Watts

Although some of the other unspirited kids in class didn't take much interest in Reggie Watts, I thought that he was HILARIOUS.  But on top of being so funny, he's also really really talented in terms of music. I thought it was really cool how he was able to freestyle while at the same time he was looping his voice.

Also the man is on a TED talk, which is even funnier.  The TED talk is entitled "Reggie Watts disorients you in the most entertaining way." And he speaks french!! If you haven't seen that yet, then I'd encourage that you check it out. I really like how he's able to loop his voice and then alter it, and do all of LIVE. Reggie Watts is very very talented and if I ever get the chance to see him, I'll be buying tickets for sure.

23

Sooo I know that you most likely wouldn't be a fan of a song that mixes Miley Cyrus, Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa but you should try to check this one out. Let me explain why really quick.

First off, it's produced by Mike WiLL Made It. Mike WiLL Made It is a 24 year old producer from Atlanta and he probably one of the best, if not the best, hip hop beat maker alive. He's done multiple songs that have hit the top of the charts for artists such as Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus and Juicy J. He practically made revived Juicy J's career by producing the beat for "Bandz A Make Her Dance" because Juicy's raps really aren't any good. But anyways, every beat he makes is really good, despite the rapper or singer going over it.

Second, Miley is rapping in this song and I think her lyrics are hilarious. It makes her sound like probably the biggest slut to ever walk the Earth. I start to wonder why she is doing this to herself. Also, she is acting like she Juicy J or Wiz when she really isn't. She says she's "tatted up" with "J's on her feet." So yeah, her rap verse isn't very good and get what you expect when you're listening to a Miley Cyrus song. She does the chorus with Juicy J and I actually think that they sound pretty good together and it flows well.

Lastly, Wiz is in this song and he's the only rapper in the song who can come up with a creative rhyme.  I love hearing his stoner laugh before he goes in on a verse. I don't know why but it gets me every time.  But anyways I thought that he did a good job in the song despite his verse being really really short.

Juicy J's verse comes last and it's exactly what you'd expect from him. He talks about getting hoes and popping bottles, what a surprise. But he didn't kill the song and still helped it all flow together.

But anyways, this is probably going to turn into a huge club song, which is what it is meant to be. It has both things that any song needs to be a club hit. Either: A) Juicy J or B) a sick beat. This song was fortunate enough to have both, which is why it should be successful. Music video posted below.

Also you should check out rapgenius.com if you haven't already. It has the lyrics to like every rap song ever made and explains them. So if you hear someone say something and are like WTF then you can go on here and hopefully get a decent explanation.

A Hard Day's Night

During this past week in class, we've been watching "A Hard Day's Night." It seemed interesting at first but as it went on, it kind of lost my attention. It was hard to understand what all the characters were saying, thus making it challenging to really understand what exactly was happening. Plus, it was in black and white which really didn't make things any better.

However, I thought that some parts of the movie were funny while other parts didn't really make that sense to me. It might be because you had to watch closely to really understand and catch the british humor, but I'm not sure. It's just not the type that humor that I'm really used to. In my opinion the funniest shows on TV are Arrested Development and The Big Bang Theory. I feel that these shows have a more direct humor, which is what I'm used to. I'd probably have to watch more Monty Python related things to understand the humor of "A Hard Day's Night."

Nothing Was The Same - week 4

A few days ago, Drake's album entitled "Nothing Was The Same" leaked online. This has been one of the most anticipated hip hop albums of the year, but I wouldn't even call it hip hop. Drake has kind of created his own genre that mixes rapping and singing and the albums has points in it that are slow, while other are fast. The album has definitely lived up to the hype that it's received over the past year.

Drake does such an incredible job of mixing up his singing with his rapping. It all flows really well together and because of this, I think it has a great appeal to all audiences. The album has such a great variety of tracks and sound. No one I've talked to about it has given it any disapproval including my mom who's like 50. My favorite tracks are posted below.

The Beatles - week 4

This past week in class we've been listening to entire albums of The Beatles. I wasn't much of a fan of the first album that we listened to, but I thought that the second one was much much better. I'm not quite sure what it was about it, but I thought that just all together, this second one was much better. Most likely it was because they improved and got better as time progressed. Because of this, I look forward to listening to more of their work as their career progresses, and I cannot wait for what is in store in the near future. (Also, it would be cool if we listened to more of them mashed up with Jay-Z)

2 CHAINZZ!!! - week 3

Recently, 2 Chainz released his second studio album entitled B.O.A.T.S. (Based On A True Story) II #Metime. Despite the ridiculous name and 2 Chainz reputation as rapper, I thought that the album was good.

Well the beginning was good. After the first 10 songs, I thought that there was a huge drop off. He was actually putting good verses together that rhymed and everything then I guess he got a little lazy and it just started to get really bad. But in those first 10 songs he was doing really well! He had a song that featured Pharrell, another one that featured Drake and Lil Wayne (which is my favorite on the album) entitled "I Do It," and he even had one that featured Fergie which I found hilarious (its called "Netflix" and the song is hilarious).

However, it is 2 Chainz who is rapping so we know that NOTHING he says is appropriate and it is all talking about sex, drugs and money. But for a 36 year old man, I love what he is doing.

Beatles - Week 3

I've never really had much of an interest in The Beatles. I mean the only thing that I really knew about previously to the movie that we watched was that they had 19 number albums and Jay-Z (who currently has 13) is trying to catch them. But after watching that movie, I've started to listen to some of their music and it has helped me realized just how BIG that they were back in the '60s. When watching them perform I thought that it was just ridiculous how girls would screaming and crying (some pissing their pants) in the audience over them. I don't know if there's ever been another rock band to have that kind of effect.

But I really enjoyed a lot of their music. Before this, I had only heard a few of their songs such as "Yellow Submarine" and "Hey Jude." But after watching the whole movie and some of their performances I really liked "She Loves You" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand." I'm excited and I look forward to listening to more of their stuff and finding out more about them.

Mac Miller - week 2

Outside of class I've been listening to a lot of Mac Miller. I really like his new album a lot more than his first one. His first album kinda sucked and disappointed everyone who was a fan of his mixtapes. But his new one entitled "Watching Movies With The Sound Off"is really really good, despite the weird name. I think it's really important for an album to have a good intro and I liked his a lot. Most of the time when I hear an album with a bad intro, I just find myself skipping through it and not really listening to it.

But overall, I really like the album. Mac Miller switched up his flow and he kinda sounds like odd future (if you know who that is) and has changed from the party style of rap that he used to be. I think that Mac Miller has always had good lyrics and he kills it in a lot of his songs on this album. My favorite songs from the album are posted below, and personally I think the video for "Watching Movies" might be the best of all time (lol).

Elvis and the 50's - week 2

This past week in class we have learning more about Elvis and rock and roll from the 1950s. I'd never really taken much interest into old rock and roll before this. I didn't really like Elvis' performance as much as other rock and roll artists of the time. I think that Elvis had a more relaxed and boring performance than a character like James Brown or Bo Diddley. I liked the rock and roll that featured the guys like Brown and Diddley much more than Elvis.

Music I've been listening to - week 1

Recently, I've been to a ton of different hip-hop songs. On tuesday Juicy J and Big Sean each released new highly anticipated albums. Big Sean released "Hall Of Fame" and Juicy J released "Stay Trippy."

Big Sean's album kind of disappointed me. He released several singles leading up to the release of the album and they were all really good. But after I downloaded and listened to the entire album, I realized that those were best songs on the album. I think his first album was way better than the one he just dropped. He put out a song named "Control" that featured Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica, and I thought that song was amazing. --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkZZo0XSm5s On this track I thought that Kendrick Lamar had one of the best rap verses of ALL TIME. The sad part was that this song wasn't even put on the album. I think that the album might grow on me in time as many other songs and albums have, but right now I'm a little disappointed the album.

Juicy J has a much different style that Big Sean. I saw him in concert when he came to Austin and it was CRAZY. He's a guy that makes club hits and bangers instead of focusing on lyrics. I didn't really know what to expect from him, because he has some songs that are just horrible and some that I actually like listening to if I'm just driving somewhere or in my room doing homework. His album was actually a lot better then I thought it would be. Now it wasn't as good as Big Sean because Juicy J is incapable of making music better than Big Sean, but I still liked it. It had a track with Justin Timberlake and it had a slow song and I thought that it was really good for Juicy. I think it's amazing that he's still going hard at 38 years old and hope he keeps making hits.

I really can't wait for 2 Chainz and Drake's new albums dropping in september. I think Drake will have one of the best albums of the entire year for any genre of music, just after listening to all of the singles he's produced.

Rock and Roll from class - Week 1

In class this past week we listened to very very old rock and roll. Before wednesday's class, I'd never really cared for the genre. Rock and roll has always appeared to me as hardcore and loud music by artists such as Kiss and ACDC and personally I never cared to listen to anything like that.

But anyways, I really liked what I heard in class from Little Richard and Chuck Berry. I honestly had no idea that there were black guys making Rock and Roll back in the 50s. I really enjoyed Little Richard's energetic style and his passion when he was covering Tutti Frutti. I had heard the song before but I had absolutely no idea that it was by Little Richard. I'd also heard Johnny B Goode in the past and   I had no idea that it was a black man singing.

I hope to listen to more up beat and up tempo rock and roll artists in the near future. I think it will get me much more interested in the genre as a whole.

History of Rock blog - music importance

I listen to a ton of different rap and hip hop music and it plays a huge role in my life. I always am looking for new music that leaks early and I'm always searching for new hot artists. I listen to music in my car all the time and I can't study or do homework without listening to my music.
